Charlotte

Charlotte is a fun character to draw and one of my favourites to write. One of the hardest things about making Bad Machinery is drawing characters who are growing up on the page. I have to run all their parallel developments in my head at once, try to keep them in proportion and on-model, at a time when the once-trustworthy human body starts rebelling in 100 confusing ways. Lottie is perhaps the easiest because I can look at her sister Sarah in Scary Go Round, and her mother, I know where this road is probably going to end.

I love Adam & Joe - not a surprise you are also a fan.

Like a lizard in a blizzard...

Lottie's fast evolving into my favourite character too. I'd forgotten she was a Grote, but now I can see the family resemblance.

This is a suitably random place to say that you are really writing fit to beat the band this episode. It's super - the best and most consistent of yours I've ever read. You appear to have found the sweet spot between whimsy and (ahem) truth.

'You're not on your daddy's yacht now, twinkle' indeed.

FWIW of course.

I came over to here to talk about how much I love Little Claire and I couldn't really find a space to express said love so I'm going to express it here alongside my appreciation for Adam and Joe references.

If you can get "maybe you shouldn't be living here" into Bad Machinery I think there is a place for you in every Heaven (including puppy and robot Heavens)
