Shirt shack shop snooper

Today has been a day of designs! I haven't coloured the first two yet, the third is as it will be.

I have sold hundreds of (well, a hundred) "ask me about unicorns" buttons at cons so I thought I would have a go at a shirt.

This is one my friends seem to pick out of my sketchbook every time they see it

This has been on a post-it for months

I'm not sure about the unicorn shirt - it seems like a good idea, but the image doesn't immediately scream "unicorn" like it needs to.

The Space Invaders / Tetris one is genius and I would surely buy it had I the disposable income.

I love them all.

I know people who need cat and unicorn t-shirts. Several in the latter case. They may not know that they need them, but they do.

John, you have done it again. The Tetris shirt SHALL be mine. I have seen other Space Invaders shirts, and other Tetris shirts, but this is the best.

Ugh, American Apparel again?!

I love the Invaders design but I hate American Apparel shirts.

The material is too soft and thin; the neck is too wide; the arms are too tight; the body is far too short. Basically, their "Mens" shirts are more like girls underwear.

Ray Gun, I chose the AA shirts specifically for their cut, I don't like the boxy cut and scratchy heavy cotton of most blank tee shirt brands. But mainly I like the fact that they are not assembled by children in a sweatshop in South America or south east Asia - that is not a passive-aggressive dig at you at all. I know we are all different shapes and sizes and have preferences about these things.

I'd given up message tees because
i guess I'm too old now, but I Probably can't live without someone asking me about unicorns. Will thetre be rainbows?

John, I'm not convinced that American Apparel are as ethically managed as they would have us believe.

If you want an ethical T-shirt then I would recommend Gildan

Gildan T-shirts are coarser than AA shirts but they still feel comfortable and are harder wearing and hold their colour longer, in my experience. They also have a looser fit and a longer back, which I prefer.

I'm not pleading or begging, I'm just making the case for a different T-shirt. I respect your right and privilege to choose whatever shirt you prefer.

No matter how crappy I think it is. :-P

I used to use Gildans, the shape was never consistent. Some would be two inches longer. But they were cut so square, it was just an ugly garment.

I know AA have their problems, Dov Charney is a gross figure. But they seemed the best of a bad bunch.

I am interested to hear that Gildan are ethical, I will look into what they currently produce. Things may have improved.

Thanks for your replies, John.

I know you used to sell Gildan T-shirts. I still wear, and love, my Gildan "The Saddest Wookie" shirts.

i like these designs a lot! but i don't like the colors (dark & drab compared my usual fare), and as a short, curvy lady, american apparel shirts make me look like a fool. :( bella babydolls fit me just fine. i don't know what their labor practices are, though. i had a lady sovereign t-shirt once that was printed on an alternative apparel, and it was my favorite t-shirt ever. it was printed on lovely soft cotton, was a good fit & lovely color, and without all the ickiness related to american apparel. they're a british company, i believe. have you ever considered them? here's a URL - http://www.alternativeapparel.com/

I would have to say I agree with elle indsay - the AA girly Ts don't have enough chest, arm and hip space for my preference. However, I appreciate that it's hard to please all of us picky sorts.

I'm still planning to GET the Invaders/Tetris T-shirt. Strangely, my husband seems to think the AAs flatter me. Clearly one cannot have beauty and comfort simultaneously.

The AA shirts seem to be designed for skinny minis, and I'm a broad-shouldered type who's gone a bit doughy (like a laborer who doesn't do enough labor), so they look a little tight on me - size XL still fits ok though. They're not so tight that I'm ashamed to wear them in public.

The Gildan shirts are roomier but aren't of great quality - they tend to stretch and wear pretty quickly.

I think of the various screenprinted t-shirts I've bought, the ones that have held up the best to wear, tear, and the laundry machines are the Hanes Beefy Ts, but they might be cost-prohibitive, for all I know.

Just one man's opinion.

I'm very upset that the cat person shirt is blue! I am most definitely a crazy cat person. . . my cats are my children. But I look so ugly in blue and I already had to buy eggbert in blue so I really can't afford another t-shirt in which I'll look ugly :( But the design is really super cute and I like the unicorn one a lot too. Keep the designs coming. . . I still comments when I wear my ghost band :)

I've got to get on board with the "Ladies' AA shirts aren't made to fit ladies" crowd. When I ordered Emo Potato, I expected a 26" waist like the chart says; it was 30". Maybe it's just that particular style? They must offer one that's less like a shirt for dainty men.

Love the new designs, though!

These are wonderful! I really think this is a good direction: catchy without being /too/ obscure or complicated.
Sometimes simpler is better.
