Foxhole

When I ended Scary Go Round, I promised a new Shelley Winters project, "Destroy History", would follow. Well, it didn't. I wrote about 13 pages, couldn't see how I could write the character any more (given the direction I'd taken her), tore up what I'd done (I write all my comics longhand, away from the computer) and let the destroyhistory.com domain name lapse.

But I still enjoy drawing Shelley, she's a reasonable piece of very long-term character design. And on Sunday I started, by accident, working on a new thing for her. It's a short story called "Fox Flakes". It's not really a comic, it's all in rhyme, and I'm not sure what to do with it to justify working it up into a finished form. I don't even know what form it would take! And it's not drawn like my normal comics. But if you miss Shelley, she might just come back.

I will always have a crush on Shelley Winters. As far as imaginary people goes, she's the tops, just edging out Erin.

Bonus appearances of her are always good.

I do like Shelley. I was always curious to find out what would happen to justify calling the project "Destroy History", but if it's not working out... then I'll just have to continue enjoying Bad Machinery.

I love Shelley! I loved when she became, for the most part, the main person in Scary Go Round, and I often wonder what she got up to afterward. I think this project would be pretty great no matter what form it too, just go with whatever you think of.

I'd like to see it drawn up just to know what fox flakes are made from, and what Shelly plans to do with them

I don't care too much about seeing Shelley back in action (I like her, but I much prefer Bad Machinery), but your description of Fox Flakes is intriguing! I'd love to see/read it if you figure out how to make that happen.

One can never have too much Shelly Winters. The more, the merrier. Shelly and Dark Esther...I can never get enough.

Fox flaxes. Guaranteed dandruff-free!

That's truly Quentin-Blaketastic art there - go on, finish it; you'll need a bumper in between BM stories soon, anyway.

If it's not just bringing back an old beloved character just because she used to be popular, but an actual clever and interesting story featuring deal old Shelly, I say trot it out. And when you add the fact that it's in rhyme, it becomes a crime not to let the world enjoy it. So go on and finish it up!

I'd be glad to pay a few bucks (which would translate, I believe, into "a few quid" when it arrives in your bank account) to see this thing.

zomgfoxes!
*ahem*
I just wanted to say that my sticking with BM has paid off. I really didn't enjoy it in the beginning, but it seems you've hit your stride - everyone in the office looks at me funny because I laugh so much every morning.

Yeah, it would be great to see some more Shelley times!

Also, the Wigu link on the main page needs updating to its new address.

You could do it like an Edward Gorey book, they are often rhyming couplets with emphasis on the drawings. It'd make a nice eBook, then if it merited it, a print run.

I wish comments were enabled on Bad Machinery, but I just wanted to leave a note here telling you how much I Absolutely Adore your comic! I love pretty much everything about it - the style, the plots, and most especially, Lottie.

I sometimes get the feeling you are slightly scared of Shelley Winters. Of course, I'm probably way off the mark, lost in my own little world and so on.

It would certainly be a shame if that were the case, she's popular for a reason.
