I was asked after I drew Batwoman if I could draw any other superhero ladies. I said yes, I could draw all the X-Men ladies from 1988 from memory. I learned to draw ladies (or rather, I tried to learn to draw ladies) from those Marc Silvestri issues! In retrospect the masterful
Bret Blevins on "New Mutants" would have been a better person to copy. Mr Silvestri was the master of a particular, peculiar "up the nose" shot that was almost impossible to replicate.
I don't reckon I'll ever be a match for those fellows, both of whom seemed on fire month after month - I always think that the work of the artists who formed Image was at its most appealing in the late 80s before things got super-stylised and baroque.
I'll draw all the 1988 X-ladies if anyone is interested, I will prove that I am the king of sort of remembering how things sort of looked.

Yes, please. I would love to see them.
please, please, please do more. rogue looks amazing. i am waiting with bated breath for the next one. :)
if this is too much fawning, here is another tactic:
i would quite enjoy seeing some more x-men drawings. if you don't, i like your other drawings anyway.
I think that would be a great deal of fun, please do.
I, too, am interested.
My love for Shadowcat would only be made worse by your version of her, so please spare me.
Wait, what am I talking about?
Please, please, please! Yes!
of course you should do more
yes, please!!

id love to see some more... mohawk storm, jubilee, dazzler (hah!)... who else was around back then? psylocke!
Yes, yes. I think this is a very good idea.
I am another person who is also interested. Yes.
I vote yay for X-Men ladies drawings.
That was the hey-day of my comics reading - please do it!
You're spot on about the late 80s X-artists. Silvestri was always a very good artist but he only got worse the more ornate his style became. He was probably the best draftsman of all the Image 7, although I'd say Larsen is far and away the best now. Doing 22 pages of comics (more or less) every month for over twenty years will do that.
Man, if I had my way you'd be lashed to a pole to draw ladies until your fingers were nubs. I'd like to think of this initiative as an acceptable compromise.
Tim O'Neil:
completely agree! Erik Larsen's industry and love of drawing comics is a great inspiration to me.
actually, i'd love to see you draw all eight of the "australia-era" x-men (off the top of my head: colossus, wolverine, rogue, dazzler, storm, longshot, havok, & psylocke)! i'm in the minority, i think, but that's my favorite run of x-men comics, when they were in the outback, and everyone thought they were dead. that's the peak of silvestri for me; everything after (well, from cyberforce on) is a little too "boob-y" for my tastes.
The preponderance of red-haired superheroines makes it look like you're just drawing Shelley dressed up in various costumes. I can totally see her having that kink, too.
British Psylocke, then... just to make sure. I think fake-Asian Psylocke came out in the 90s, but, in case she was around in 1988... Do the British one anyways.
Definitely interested! Let's see those ladies.
I wish you drew all the comic books.
No thankyou, that is quite enough
