2010 album chart of the year part 5

4 WOMEN - Women

"Cameras"

"Shaking Hand"

This scraped in, it was released in January '09 in the UK!

3 VECKATIMEST - Grizzly Bear

"Two Weeks"

"Ready, Able"

Two of the year's best videos! THE BEST

2 SIGNAL MORNING - Circulatory System

"Overjoyed"

"Woodpecker Greeting Worker Ant"

1 HUNTING MY DRESS - Jesca Hoop

This record only came out about a month ago so video is thin on the ground! Here are some wholly representative live jams from a stellar LP.

"Murder Of Birds" (live)

"Hunting My Dress" (live)

For all that 2010 seemed a thin year, I enjoyed all the records on my list a great deal and there were several others in contention right up to the end, all worthy of investigation:

ESPERS III - Espers
WOLFGANG AMADEUS PHOENIX - Phoenix
BITTE ORCA - Dirty Projectors
LIFE AND TIMES - Bob Mould
FITS - White Denim
JEWELLRY - Micachu & The Shapes
THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART - The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart

Oh good, I was hoping the Micachu album would be in here somewhere, even as a runner-up. My favorite new thing this year.

As usual, I have enjoyed the Dr Ladysounds year end countdown, and as usual it has given me lots of new music to try out.

Speaking of Two Weeks, I don't know your feelings on mash-ups in general but I am extremely fond of a version wherein some DJs have mixed it up with the Dead Prez classic "Hip Hop." http://www.thehoodinternet.com/2009/04/dead-prez-vs-grizzly-bear.html

I will unveil Dr Ladysounds successor (or SUCCESSORS) late next year, a new era will be upon us, a terrible era.

Have you heard of St. Vincent? Her second album, "Actor," came out this year. It's fantastic, weird baroque pop/rock music. I think you'd like it, if you haven't heard it already. It's definitely one of my favorites of 2009. Good list though, anyway. Rarely are best of lists so entertaining.
