Cards cards
You may remember that I mooted a set of Scary Go Round playing cards about a year and a half ago, a project that I abandoned due to cost. I can't remember if I ever showed the artwork (which was 95% done when I gave up - great use of time!) If I didn't and you'd like to see it, make some effusive noises in the comments. It was the last concerted Adobe Illustrator project I did and came out really nice.

I too would love to see them! And also obtain them in a physical form of some sort. But I'll settle for seeing them!

How unfeasible is unfeasible? I mean, if a pack of cards cost $50USD I wouldn't buy them - but $10-20 could be ok. They'd be one of a kind! Well, in my town anyway. There's someone in a village an hour away who recognizes my Scary-Go-Round t-shirts but none of the locals do (that's what happens when a person moves to rural Nova Scotia with only dial-up, surrounded by the elderly...)
I imagine prohibitive printing costs would be the problem to producing these cards. I do love the artwork, though - even more than my bad alliteration a sentence ago.

I'll say that I'd pay ~US$20 (which I'm sure is about enough for a cup of coffee when converted into real currency) for a deck of the cards. Yes, I know it would probably take hundreds of people willing to pay that much for the cards to make them work economically. Sigh.
Jennie Breeden of the webcomic The Devil's Panties has produced her own set of playing cards. She has quite the variety of merchandise though (http://devilspanties.keenspot.com/t-shirts.htm). I don't know how she pulls it off. Maybe she does have a deal with the dark lord from providing him with undergarments.

Leah: It wasn't the unit cost so much as that I would have had to print an awful lot of them. The printer I had lined up weren't terribly responsive, and in the end I needed the thousands of pounds at issue for something else.
When I make things in large numbers (upwards of a few hundred) they take a lot of time to pay the money back. Scary Go Round readers have common sense in their minds and most, like me, aren't often swayed by trinkets.
It's certainly a project I'd think about mounting again if I had time (I don't).
I'll stick a couple of the cards on my blog each day - something to look at!
If the comic was called "Space Swords EX+" I think things would be different.

aww they are really cool, I do remember when you were hoping they would become real! Its such a shame that you'd have to do so many at one time as I would def buy them!

Maybe it was for the best . . . this might have rekindled my interest in games of chance/skill which would eventually result in a disastrous loss at the table against a mysterious Englishman . . . A loss great enough to have financed a short run of novelty playing cards, with enough left over for a new hat.

Post the full set of cards as a downloadable pdf at a lowish price, say £3, then people can print it themselves or take it to a printer to do it. Payloadz takes a cut of the proceeds hence no initial outlay on your part apart from the work you have mostly already done!
Sarah, that's just what I was going to suggest... though John seems to have two aces of clubs for some reason. Are you meant to hide one up your sleeve when playing poker?
Man, these are pretty much awesome. A set would stand out and be awesome to have. Put one on the helmet for good luck.

I'm a bit sniffy about people printing my stuff out and doing their own thing with it if it isn't something I created specifically for that purpose. I don't want to let any hi-res artwork out because it ends up being repurposed in a thousand cringe-worthy ways.
Some of you may remember the tale of the orange corduroy Scary Go Round pants-suits that were stalking Brooklyn a few years back. That sounds like a joke but unfortunately it isn't. And those things were EXPENSIVE. Where's my cut?

How about a Top Trumps version ... some possible metrics:
Gratuitous use of tracksuits
Number of times dead
Percentage of body covered in tatoos
Number of non-human friends
Likelihood to suffer from "phossy jaw"
Etc

Ever thought of using fundable.org as a way both of judging interest plus getting the cash in advance to remove the risk from your side? Set a target of x hundred people prepared to pay $20 a time or whatever, with all paying when the target is reached - sufficient to cover the print run for them then some excess stock for you to sell on. Appreciate that it wouldn't integrate with your ordering and shipping system though
I've come late to the party but if every card has different art on it I would pay upwards of three chickens or perhaps a goose for an actual set of these.
