Dog problems

I was going to do drawn intros to all the chapters in my new book but what I came up with didn't really work the way I wanted it to. I did think this rough was quite funny though.

I have filled all those pages with new drawings and words so my scratchy little drawings won't make it into the book. I post them to the blog so they aren't lost... forever.

HEY.

The user who suggested Quentin Blake totally pre-empted me! I was about to say the exact same thing!

Very charming sketch, I agree.

I saw Quentin Blake at the end of last summer at Somerset house - I agree - though I think it may have a little to do with the scanning technique as well.

All you have to do now is something along the lines of, say, The Shadow Cage, or Fantastic Mr Fox, and all my childhood nostalgia will overwhelm me like a giant warm mashmallow

My copy of Fantastic Mr Fox didn't have Quentin Blake drawings, it pre-empted the modern era of Roald Dahl books. My first exposure to his drawings was the Uncle books by J.P Martin. I remember renewing "Uncle" six weeks in a row at the village library. I got another copy in 2001 (after waiting a very, very long time for it to be reprinted), gave it away as a gift, intending to get another - and found it had gone out of print again!

Obviously Quentin Blake is one of my great favourites and when I scrawl indiscriminately, elements of his influence show through.

The villiage library - I know it well!

Have you searched for Uncle books illustrated by Quentin Blake on the internet? I just have, and it's made me very sad. I suggest you don't.
