Music journalism is frequently a right load of old rot, a miserable wrong 'un if ever there was one ('un). Who do I blame? Society.
But sometimes it can go right. I would never knowingly listen to the music of child rocker "L'il Chris", but here (from Popjustice.com) is the best, funniest interview I have read in years. I was crying by the end of it.

Finally, a rating scale based on how festive something is!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm slightly addicted to this last.fm jigger. Thank you very much.
Clearly, we should start attaching festive ratings to the tunes on this "last.fm" jigger.
Merry Christmas to fellow Scary Go Round readers! And Merry Christmas to you John. Thanks for a great year of comedy and art!
I worry for the boy. When Lil Bow Wow got older, he was still able to call himself Bow Wow. I rather fancy Lil Chris will find it trickier to market himself as plain old Chris. That said, Plain Old Chris does have a certain je ne sais quoi.
Merry Xmas to you John.
I love Christmastime for all the cheesy things that it is, but I don't like it for SgoR being interrupted for these hipster indi-rock album reviews. Is there any way you could move this to another time of year?
Dear Jacqueline,
the alternative is a week of nothing at all. Am I not allowed my traditional Christmas week off? Am I not allowed the untrammelled joy of writing Shelley's album reviews tailored to people who have never heard of Frampton's Camel, Gentle Giant or Einsterzende Neubaten? Not to mention Amon Duul 2! Should I run them on a week of your choosing rather than the one week when hardly anybody is reading?
Well, I can make this happen. If you want me to move them to another week, send me a cheque for £5000 and we'll come to an arrangement for 2007. It will be somewhat hard to compile my album of the year chart in mid-March or late August but I'll try.
Yours sincerely,
John Allison
To John,
Just to say thank you for putting Joanna Newsom as your number one album. It was criminal that it didn't get more pubilicity when it was released and its always nice to see that other brits *do* like good music.
a big fan, Mark.
Thanks Mark! It's a special record. I actually think it got pretty good coverage for such a difficult album, good reviews across the board and pieces in most music magazines and the Guardian, Times etc. It even got to #41 in the proper charts despite there being nothing on it radio could play as a single!
