Movie review time

OK, so last night I went to see "Serenity". I'm pretty sure that there are no spoilers in this review so read on unabashed.

Serenity is a movie where the bad priest guy from Buffy the Angel Slayer has somehow got in charge of a spaceship in order to get away from Buffy. The bad guy from the X Files is also in it (not a very popular bad guy) and a girl who is kind of weird in the brain. Anyway! It is like Battlestar Galacticas without Lorne Green. At some point there were bad, scary men who I assume are very disenfranchised because it is the future. Also there was a black man who was a Very Good Actor.

One thing about this movie that annoyed me was that they seemed to have stolen a lot of ideas from "Firefly" off the TV. But don't let that distract you from the fighting.

Watch this movie if: you like bad vicars in space kicking off some excellent fights.
Avoid this movie if: you are no fan of "entertainment".

Serenity: a good movie!

It is Firefly. The movie.

Your rundown of the movie left my brain a bit confused, but that's easy to do regardless, so it is alright. You leave me wondering, though, why did you use quotation marks on the word entertainment?

I am not sure whether I am ashamed or proud of the fact that I've never been into 'firefly'. Buffy was a good time, and I watched Angel for a couple of seasons despite it being simply 'ok'. (Depression. This is also how I saw every 'Law and Order' ever produced)(Also Wesley had good hair, but that can only keep you hooked for so long).

Given your review I have decided I am not missing anything...did see corpse bride on Friday. That was cute. No fighting, tho.

Wow, you're kidding! i couldn't believe all the coincidences, like the identical cast, characters and plots! Does Joss Whedon know someone made a movie of his TV show? I bet he's really pissed off!!!

It IS indeed the movie version of Joss Wheadon's cult-favorite TV show "Firefly". The ship itself is named Serenity, ergo the movie title. Man, I love that movie.

criminy, am i the only one who sees through john a's sarcasm, or are your comments some further form of sarcasm, to which john replies with his next layer???? *head explodes*

The scary multisarcasm is making my head hurt.

I think that Poly-Sarcasm would be a better word here because it causes me to think of some prismatic shape formed entirely of sarcasm. Each new facet of sarcasm refracting, dividing, and refocusing the previous sarcasm into a newer, more powerful form.

Not only is the black man a "Very Good Actor" but he's also a very busy actor. He's in no less than three of the movies currently playing at my local cinema. He's called Chewie Ewokfur. Or something.

The following morning after I saw Serenity I had a dream in which I spotted a major plot hole in the movie that no one else had noticed. I lay in bed for five minutes thinking, "must post plot hole to internets" before falling asleep again. I have completely forgotten what the plot hole was.

I can't believe they killed him. Holy crap, he was my favourite character after Jayne. It makes me very emotional...

Also, there's a lot of that Battlestar Galactica without Lorne Greene going around. Is it a cause for concern?

dont ruin it you bastard! that's the most amazing part of the movie!

on a completely different note, now that you (john A) are all happy with the hand drawring (me too, me too) and the adding walk-ons in the background, have you thought of possible contests/money getting schemes that involve you putting us real life folks into the backgrounds of SGR? i think it would be fun to have a halloween contest of some sort. best scarygoround themed costume?

i digress. as usual.

Sometimes I think I have solved physics problems in my sleep, but then I really haven't, I've just convinced myself that I have. The plot hole may not actually be.

Maybe there should be a sarcasm indicator, as a new form of punctuation, such as /S/insert sarcastic sentence here/S/. It would be a trade off...less fun, but also less frustrating. It seems like sarcasm as a whole is on its way out of vogue, anyway, and is being replaced by vaguely absurd yet upbeat blatent mockery, which would be even harder to indicate with punctuation.

I'm having trouble reconciling people saying It is Firefly with people who understand, let alone enjoy SG and read it regularly.

Maybe they just like explosions and the bits where characters fall down....

Rachel said...

Agreed. Maybe they don't read SGR and were just doing a blogger search on firefly or serenity?

Christophe said...

Hey.

It's fun to be pedantic.

Corwin said...

Explosions are fun too.

I can delete my previous post if people think it's too spoilery. I tried to be as vague as possible while still getting the sentiment across.

My bad I read what he was saying wrong. I had about a dozen pints in me at the time. John are you ever going to mention Bethesda at the SPX. That is my home town I would have been there but I live in California. Did you get a chance to hit any pubs? or like them?

John A said...

Bethesda: a very clean town. Very tidy, neat signage. A credit to its local populace.

I am not a big drinker these days, "travb", and I divide pubs into two boolean categories: "agreeable" and "disagreeable". I probably only visited one bar, it was agreeable.

Bethesda: AGREEABLE!

Polysarcasm is my new favorite word.
