The best news in ages

Yesterday (Saturday) I did not go to the cinema to see Primer because the train was cancelled, I burned myself quite badly on the steam iron, and I went on a night out wherein I took a taxi all the way to my destination, received a text message, then told the driver to turn the car around and take me home.

But today is Sunday and the news is good for the Inglese:

Channel 4 Buys The Daily Show

This means no more CNN Daily Show Global Edition oops we replaced it with Design 360 this week plus four commercial breaks in a half hour advertising "The Kuwait Fund" plus four news tickers and five competing channel ident stamps. A victory for common sense.

I have to mention that if this is any indication in the direction you're taking the comic, I am excited.

I can't help but wonder how much of the Daily Show's humor will translate in other countries. Will Britons get a kick out of New York's senior senator Chuck Shumer and his witty repartee with Jon Stewart?

Speaking as a Briton (which I am), I personally find the Daily Show very funny, and US politics very interesting. For instance, I know who "Russ Feingold" is. Also "Joe Biden", also "Bill Frist".

That is quite remarkable. I am a pretty intelligent American who cares about what is going on in the world, and I admit that I cannot name a single member of Parliament. Sorry! Is it because our senators are better characters? Always off on their senate adventures? Or is it because the senators you named are just big fat loudmouths?

Here in Canadia we had a good show a few years ago that did the humour/fake news show better than the Daily Show, This Hour Has 22 Minutes (though it was only really better because they had parliament members sing songs on Parliament Hill). Still, I like me some Daily Show, just like I like me some of the new style (and was that Batjew?)
